The New GMAT Focus is Here: Everything You Need to Know

UPDATE, MAY 2023:
According to GMAC, the release date for the 2023 OG is 3/28/23 late April June 7th, 2023, nearly a year later than usual.  The book is the same price as last year—but includes 40% fewer questions than the 2022 edition, and will prepare students specifically for the new GMAT Focus Edition that debuts at the end of 2023.

GMAT OG Bundle 2023-2024 on Amazon

ORIGINAL ARTICLE, PUBLISHED JUNE 2022

Pro Tip:  If you've been holding off on buying a copy of the Official Guide (or the Official Guide bundle) because you have heard that a new edition is published annually, then there is no need to wait: surprisingly, it appears that GMAC and Wiley will not be publishing a new, 2023 edition of the GMAT "OG" anytime soon.

Usually, "next year's" edition is published somewhere between May 15th and June 1st of the previous year, as has been the pattern since 2012, when the 13th edition was released, and the Integrated Reasoning (IR) section was added to the exam.  However, here we are on Sunday, June 12, 2022 — yet there is not a single mention of the 2023 OG anywhere to be found, whether on mba.com, or on the popular bookseller websites such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble: no paper version, no digital version, nothing.

So, what changed?  It appears to me that budget cuts are currently in order at GMAC, and that the company is now focusing the majority of its time and resources on developing new questions / enhancing security procedures for the GMAT online, instead of publishing a new book every year.

It's not as if GMAC were actually adding new questions anymore: although previous editions of the OG had boasted 10-15% new questions, not a single question from the 2022 OG was new.

My advice? Go ahead and just buy the 2022 edition instead. Even GMAC has now admitted that previous editions of the OG are fine to use.
