McElroy Tutoring is a Different Type of Tutoring Company.

McElroy Tutoring is committed to three main values, both for its clients and its tutors: 1) selectivity, 2) transparency, and 3) fairness.

Unlike the big test-prep and tutoring companies who churn out new, inexperienced tutors every 3 months,  McElroy Tutoring retains nearly all of our tutors on a long-term basis.  We seek to offer our clients only the best tutors in each city, to pay our tutors fairly, and to charge our clients reasonable rates.

We do not believe in the "one size fits all" method of  preparation.  While we do provide our tutors with in-house guidance and training, we also give our tutors stylistic leeway by allowing them to  employ their own personalized teaching methods.  We  evaluate our tutors frequently, and always hold them accountable for their students' results, but unlike other companies, we do not require our tutors to teach from a rigid, proprietary script.

Simply put, we want to be the place where you can quickly connect with the very best tutors in your area, at an affordable price. With over 8 years of experience serving the American public as a reputable, reliable business, McElroy Tutoring comes closer and closer to that ideal each year.

We tutor students of all ages, in virtually any subject, but we specialize in standardized test
preparation, including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT & MCAT Prep.   We also have a college consulting division.

Our headquarters is in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego,  California, just off the 5 Freeway on Garnet Ave.  There, our office staff is available on weekdays from 9AM-2PM PST to answer any questions you may have.  Our telephone staff can also help connect you to private tutors and classroom courses in 24 other cities and metro areas nationwide (New York City, San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Jose, Austin, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, Portland, Philadelphia, Providence, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, Santa Barbara, Seattle, Virginia Beach, Washington DC. ).  Lastly, for those of you who are comfortable using computers, we offer online tutoring for students anywhere in the world.

At our headquarters in Pacific Beach, we offer not only an 8-student classroom for group instruction and private tutoring area, but also an admissions consulting office.  During each school year (August-June), our founder Brian McElroy is available for 1-hour standardized test prep evaluations & college consultations for students and their parents across the country.  During this consultation, Mr. McElroy will provide you with our original test-prep and college information folder, perform a GPA / Class Rank / Test Score Evaluation  (SAT, ACT, ISEE, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, PSAT, PLAN, SSAT, SHSAT, ERB), discuss and analyze your student's unique extracurricular talents, and help you and your family to outline a test prep & college preparation schedule for the remainder of the school year and beyond.  He also helps students to outline their goals for the future, select the appropriate tutor(s), and brainstorm a list of potential colleges and universities to which they plan to apply.

If you are an adult student, then we can also help you. We offer admissions essay editing for your grad-school applications, help with your college courses, and private tutoring for graduate-level standardized tests such as the GRE, GMAT, LSAT and MCAT. Many of our tutors are well-versed in college-level subject matter, and all of our tutors are required to have scored in the 95th percentile or above on any standardized test that they teach.

Although Mr. McElroy resides in San Diego, he returns to his hometown of Providence, Rhode Island frequently, and is available to tutor Rhode Island students on a limited basis every summer.  Throughout the month of July each year, he offers private lessons and college consultations at the conveniently located McElroy Law Office (right off the Branch Avenue exit on I-95).  During his visits home to Providence, Brian also takes the opportunity to interview McElroy Tutoring tutor applicants in various eastern cities.

Meanwhile, during every summer break, our Junior, Senior, Master, Executive and Ph.D. Tutors continue to teach, tutor and hold "office hours" at countless private and public tutoring locations nationwide.  For those students who wish to get a head start on Test Prep during their summer break, our tutors are available for private and group lessons (up to 8 students at a time) all summer long.

If you do not reside in one of the areas of the U.S. that we service,  but are still interested in our Tutoring or  Admissions Consulting Services, then we also offer phone consultations and real-time "virtual lessons" using web conferencing software.  Our online tutoring program works on Mac or PCs, and can save you time as well as gas money!  The other, obvious benefit is that you can select your tutors from our entire team of expert tutors, without regard to their physical location.
Do you have a few questions or concerns before you travel to one of our locations, or commit to a particular tutoring company?  We understand fully, and are happy to answer any questions you may have. Please remember that you are always free to "try before you buy": all of our tutors and admission consultants (including founder Brian McElroy) are available for phone and email consultations, including a FREE 15-minute initial phone consultation.
